Mr. Dart is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Professional Photographers of America where he earned the Certified Professional Photographer competency in 1986. More recently, in 2003, he was awarded the Photographic Craftsman degree, earned in part by presenting programs about photographing high school seniors to other professional photography organizations throughout New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Over the years Mr. Dart has attended seminars each year with some of the nation’s foremost photographers. He studied for more than 10 years at the Triangle Institute of Professional Photography in Pittsburgh and for the past three years at New York State’s Photography Workshop in Geneva, NY.
Bruce serves as president of both the Northeast Pennsylvania Professional Photographers (NPPPA) and the Northcentral Pennsylvania Photographers. Winning numerous awards at NPPPA, he is the only four time winner of the organization’s Vincent DiPiante Photographer of the Year award.
A native of Mansfield, Bruce holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mansfield State College (now Mansfield University). Following a four-year tour of duty with the United States Navy where he was trained as a journalist, Bruce worked as a news reporter and photographer for the Norwich, Connecticut Bulletin. Later he worked as a photographer for the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. From 1973 to 1979, Mr. Dart worked as Assistant Director of Public Relations at Mansfield State College, leaving to open his own business just before it became a university.
Taking a very active role in his community, Mr. Dart served on the Mansfield Borough Council for 20 years and was President of the Greater Mansfield Area Chamber of Commerce for two years. He also served at First Baptist Church in Mansfield on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Deacons. He served for ten years on the board of the Hamilton - Gibson theater group and volunteers to photograph the cast of current shows. Over the years he worked on the United Way board, Mansfield’s 4th of July, the Mansfield Auxiliary Corporation board and the county PA Easter Seal Committee. Bruce is past president of the Mansfield Campus Ministry Board.
Currently, he is on the board of Mill Cove, Inc. where he serves as treasurer. He is Commander of the Austin - Cox American Legion Post in Mansfield, moving up after his father, then Commander, passed away in 20112. He served as Vice Commander in the Legion with his father for 14 years.
He initiated the Youth Leader of Tomorrow Program for the Mansfield Chamber and coordinated the program for 32 years. More than 500 Youth Leaders have been honored since the program started with only Mansfield High school in the 1981-1982 school year. Soon after, New Covenant Academy was added and in the 1990-1991 school year the North Penn and Liberty Schools were added, reflecting the Southern Tioga School District. That has been changed to North Penn - Liberty and North Penn - Mansfield and the New Covenant Schools. Bruce is still photographing the students for the program.
